For better or worse, we as humans all share a singular experience: that is, we are a product defined by our environment.
Our sense of self-identity, perspective on the world, conscious and unconscious behavioural tendencies, or simply our daily choices, all stem from that universal experience. Beyond this high-level view of human behaviour, there are countless psychological methods, interventions and practices that provide opportunities for self-reflection in the pursuit of positive changes to our habits. However, in today’s world, I personally feel there are an increasing number of obstacles overshadowing this pursuit.
The Duality of Technology
The duality of technology is a funny one. It’s the cornerstone of our daily lives, offering us vast utility and ever-growing access to knowledge. Yet, as most philosophical disciplines point out, the human condition forgoes change under the provision of more power. More aware than ever, society is beginning to understand it faces this change in the human condition, with growing feelings of lost social connection & support, poor habit formation, the chase for immediate reward, and low intrinsic motivation. With each technological innovation came the promise of change for the betterment of humanity, yet here we are, all asking the same question: is it better?
A Force for Change
oNex will be that force for change. And I sincerely hope the corny one-liner can be looked back on with pride. Not by preaching willpower, but by shaping better environments. Not by creating more guidelines to follow, but through frictionless support for your movement. Not by trying to orchestrate radical change in how you do things, but by providing a connected and grounded platform for small wins that compound toward your goals. A platform of power that’s present with each step you take, yet one that defies the common fate determined by most social platforms.
A Culture Shift in Motion
It takes monumental effort to instil true and lasting positive changes in behaviour at a societal level. So, as our founder Jamie put it perfectly, “At its core, oNex isn’t just an app. It’s not about step counts or calorie graphs. It’s a culture shift… with some really cool new technology.”
